William H. Wilson has had a long and distinguished career in education and marketing. From 1975 to 1981, he served as director of Instructional Television for the Cambridge Publishing Division of the New York Times.

He was employed at KET from 1971 to 1974, first as assistant project director for Content Research/Design on the General Educational Development (GED) project, and moving to assistant director of education in 1973. His background also includes a teaching position and assistant principalship at Lexington’s Lafayette High School. Presently, Bill’s position is Deputy Executive Director for Education and Outreach.

A native of Lexington Kentucky, Bill received his Bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Kentucky State University in 1967, and Master’s in educational psychology and counseling from the University of Kentucky in August 1968.

He has served as a consultant to a variety of corporations, organizations, and conferences including the Georgia Association for Land Grant Colleges and Universities; The Ford Foundation; and the Educational Development Corporation in New York City.

Bill is a member of a number of local, state, and national community service organizations. He is past president of the Kentucky Association for Adult and Continuing Education and the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Association for Training and Development. He has also served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Lexington Public Library, The Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, and Literacy Volunteers of America, a national organization with a network of over 100,000 tutors and students whose mission is to teach people to read. Bill has also served on the board of directors of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce and Bank One of Lexington.

Presently, Bill serves on the board of directors for the Carnegie Literacy Center, the state United Way, and Hospice of the Bluegrass. He is also serving as chairman for the Board of Regents at Kentucky State University and chairman of the Palliative Health Care Board for the Bluegrass. Advisory board activities include the State Advisory Council for Libraries & Archives, the Lexington Community College, and the John and James L. Knight Community Foundation.

Bill has been a guest lecturer at Kentucky State University, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Southern California. He was part-time counselor at Lexington Junior High School, the Child Guidance Clinic, and the University of Kentucky.

In 1969 he received a $10,000 fellowship from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for training as an administrator for Adult and Continuing Education. Bill received the Outstanding Young Man of America Award in 1973 and was named one of the Outstanding Personalities in the South in 1976. He received the Award for Excellence from the Kentucky Literacy Commission in 1992, and he received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Outreach from the National GED Testing Service of the American Council on Education in 1993. In 1997, he received the Charles W. Anderson, Jr. Award for achievements in promoting equal employment opportunities, and in 1998 received the Lauren K. Weinberg Humanitarian Award for Community Service from the Center for Community and Justice.
