The Business of CTL is Learning
Founded in 1994, CTL is a non-profit organization that helps schools achieve dramatic results through professional development.
CTL models, tools and training help K-16 teachers and administrators to increase learning for all students. We work with schools, and we also work on behalf of other education agencies and organizations to improve K-16 teaching and learning. Our work extends from our home base in Louisville, Kentucky to national and international settings, both urban and rural, increasing the capacity of schools and other organizations to meet their learning goals.
Who We Are
We are educators with decades of experience working in schools with students, and with the professionals charged with their learning. CTL staff expertise extends across the K-16 curriculum and reflects a keen understanding of the challenges and expectations all educators face today. We have a proven track record of helping schools to transform teaching and improve learning for all students.

What We Do
- CTL is a non-profit organization that provides direct services to schools, school districts, colleges and universities. We also work on behalf of other education agencies and organizations to improve K-16 teaching and learning. In addition, we can be a partner in applying for a public or privately funded grant, or a provider under such a grant.
- CTL's primary work is the design and delivery of effective professional development. All of our work is aligned with the Common Core State Standards. We can implement one of our tested PD models - for example, CTL's Adolescent Literacy Model. Or we can work with a client to create a customized PD model designed to focus on a specific instructional area or need.
- CTL's focus is on improving instruction by obtaining and applying real evidence. We help schools turn that evidence into effective, standards-based classroom practice through effective leadership by teachers and administrators.
- CTL provides individualized coaching and support, on site and via distance technologies, to help teachers and administrators transform instruction and boost learning for all students.
- CTL helps schools build capacity not only to achieve success, but to sustain it long after we've left the building.
